THE BLACKBIRD: A SYMBOL OF LUCK AND HAPPINESS

We chose the blackbird for our game because it symbolizes luck and happiness when found in one’s garden. It also holds many other meanings depending on the tradition.

In some traditions (Celtic, Native American), blackbirds were and still are messengers of great importance. They are part of ancient animals who possessed deep knowledge of the workings of time and history, and they are often associated with the otherworld, as they can move between different realms. The blackbird embodies intelligence, self-confidence, knowledge, learning, exploration, wisdom, or clairvoyance, and symbolizes a certain mysticism.

The blackbird emits melodious vibrations: in winter, its song brings comfort, and in spring, it sings a soft tune to mark its territory in the rowan trees.

Even though it is a winged creature, this bird has direct connections to the earth. It spends a great deal of time on the ground, searching for food. In its nest, this beautiful black bird is like a yogi. It stretches its legs, back, and majestically extends its wings. It teaches us many lessons!
